Eliot is the name of the neighborhood in Portland, Oregon where the company was founded and originally headquartered. Michael Kanter is the founder and de facto Eliot of Eliot's Nut Butters.
Do you use palm oil in your nut butters?
Never have. Never will. We firmly say no to Palm oil and other unnecessary ingredients.
Do you add a lot sweeteners to your nut butters?
No. Our focus as a grown-up nut butter company is to put little to no sweetener in our nut butters. Our sweetest flavor has less added sugar then the leading national brands. Turns out you don't have to add a bunch of sugar when you start with high-quality and responsibly sourced ingredients.
Do these nut butters separate and need to be stirred?
Our nut butters have no added oils or stabilizers and will naturally seperate over time. Any oils you see on top of a jar are those that naturally exist in the nuts. Make sure to stir to the bottom of the jar to get all of the nut butter goodness!
What are the white spots on top of the Oregon Hazelnut Chocolate Spread?
Our Oregon Hazelnut Chocolate Spread uses cocoa butter, which is an ingredient used in making chocolate. With rapid temperature changes, sometimes a cocoa butter bloom occurs. Cocoa butter bloom looks like white crystals on top of the jar. While disconcerting, the white spots will easily melt when microwaved for 30-60 seconds. Stir it together and enjoy! The jar is still safe and delicious to eat. If you want to learn more about cocoa butter blooms, check out this wikipedia article which delves deeper into the science.
